Part D Extra Help Program
The Part D Extra Help program was designed to cover the out-of-pocket expenses associated with Medicare Part D. Through the Extra Help program, Part D enrollees with low income can receive assistance with the costs not covered under Medicare Part D. The Extra Help program also allows for a new enrollment in Part D without paying a late enrollment penalty during the coverage gap.
Enrollees who qualify for the Extra Help Program can receive prescription drug coverage through the Medicare Prescription drug plan or if they have a prescription drug coverage plan through Medicare Part C. For you to be eligible for the Part D Extra help program, your income and assets must fall within the set limit, after which you will become eligible once you meet other requirements.
